CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Management with the Johnstown Mill Rats baseball team said the organization will remain in the city as a part of the Prospect League.
They said the new ownership team of Bart Vickroy, Chad Gontkovic, Alex Pozun, and Matt Perry are all local.
"I hope that the community rallies behind the fact that it is locally owned, and that it isn't people from out of town," Vickroy said. "Our hearts, obviously, we wear it on our sleeve. We bleed Johnstown. We live here for a reason."
They said management is working with Johnstown city manager Ethan Imhoff of a new multi-year lease to play its games at Sargent's Stadium.
Ownership also announced Sarah Rex as the new general manager of the team.
Rex said she is excited to work with the new owners that, "saved this team."
The search for a new manager of the club is now on according to Rex. She said there are a few candidates for the position and interviews are coming as they try to fill out the coaching staff.
Team management said there will be a few changes trying to get more people to the games.'
"Marketing number one. Community engagement," Vickroy said. "We did a lackluster job of that in the past and we need to improve that."
Owners of the team also said the ticket prices will be more "advantageous to the Johnstown market."
"Our goal is to support our community," Perry said, "and ask for that support in return for the Mill Rats."
Another priority is to, "Bring the love of baseball continuously back to Johnstown," Rex said. "We're finally getting the right people and the right opportunities to do that."

After a month of uncertainty, team leaders made the announcement Friday morning during a press conference at Sargent's Stadium at the Point.
