Tick season typically lasts from April to October in Pennsylvania, but a series of warm winters and rising temperatures are causing them to emerge and stay active longer than usual. The Pennsylvania Tick Research Lab from East Stroudsburg University, the biggest tick research lab in the United States, has been collecting data on ticks for years now, studying the trends and statistics of tick life cycles and the prevalence of tick-borne illnesses.

4 dead, 2 injured, 2 unaccounted for after home explosion in Pottstown

Pottstown, PA (WCAU) — At least four people are dead after an explosion in a Pennsylvania neighborhood. The blast happened at a home in Pottstown Thursday evening. First responders say four people were killed and two others were injured in the blast that damaged several homes. Two other people are possibly unaccounted for. The Pottstown Fire Department, Pottstown Police, Pennsylvania State Police, ATF, and the fire marshal’s office are on the scene aiding in rescue efforts and the early stages of an investigation into what may have cause the explosion.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Multiple residents of Bedford say -- that in many parts of the county -- spotty cell service and poor internet connection is the norm. Franklin Co. flamingo dies while recovering from snapping turtle attack

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A flamingo that was injured in Franklin County after being attacked by a snapping turtle earlier this month has died after a long battle in recovery. The flamingos first arrived in the area after they were thrown off course by strong hurricane winds in early September. Penn State DE Adisa Isaac announces he will declare for 2024 NFL Draft

University Park, PA (WJAC) — Penn State's other star defensive end Adisa Isaac took to social media Wednesday night to announce his plans to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. The redshirt senior played in all 12 games this season for the Nittany Lions, recording 15 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and one force fumble. Isaac says he plans to make the announcement official following this weekend's Peach Bowl. He joins fellow defensive end Chop Robinson, tight end Theo Johnson and offensive lineman Olu Fashanu on the list of star Nittany Lions' players who will hope to make it on an NFL roster next season.

Clearfield's McGonigal wins gold with first period pin

HERSHEY -- The PIAA state wrestling championships are being contested today at the Giant Center in Hershey. Follow along on-air and online with WJAC-TV for coverage of wrestlers from our region. In Saturday evening's Class AAA championships, Clearfield's Luke McGonigal won gold at 195 pounds, scoring a dramatic first period pin over State College's Cole Urbas. McGonigal scored a takedown just seconds into the match, and then pinned Urbas at the 1:37 mark.

DelGrosso's nears end of 2021 season; visitors should expect staff shortage this weekend

BLAIR CO, Pa (WJAC) — With Labor Day approaching, DelGrosso’s Park is winding down its 2021 season. The Laguna Splash water park will close at the end of business on Monday, with the remainder of the park open on weekends through the end of September. Several special events are planned at the park in the coming weeks, such as the Frontline Christian Concert, Grandparents Day, the Italian Heritage Festival, and then Harvestfest to close out the month.

King's Family Restaurants closing 5 locations, including Altoona

PITTSBURGH -- King's Family Restaurants has closed five of its western Pennsylvania restaurants. The Pittsburgh-area chain was founded in 1967, but was sold two years ago to Kelly Capital, a San Diego, California private equity firm. Nobody at Kelly or King's immediately responded to messages left Monday. The chain announced Sunday night that its restaurants in Altoona (6th Avenue), Bridgeville, Harmar Township, Imperial and Wexford were closing. That leaves the chain with 24 locations in western Pennsylvania and one in eastern Ohio.
