Slain pregnant Amish woman had cuts to her head and neck, Pennsylvania police say

SPARTANSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Search warrant filings for the Pennsylvania home where a pregnant Amish woman was killed this week said she appeared to have suffered cutting wounds to her neck and head. Two search warrants were issued at the request of state police regarding Monday's slaying of Rebekah A. Byler, 23. Her body was found in the living room of her home a few miles from Spartansburg. The slaying shocked the rural community in northwestern Pennsylvania, where people say the Amish, who restrict the use of technology and are known for their traditional clothing, get on well with non-Amish in the area.

DuBois hardware store still operating after fire destroyed building

DUBOIS, Pa. - Officials ruled a fire at a Clearfield County apartment and hardware store in May as arson. Crews responded to the building on West Long Avenue in DuBois on May 19, which housed Mike's Lock and Hardware Store on the first floor and apartments upstairs. Several people were left homeless. "I got a call from my sister that said, 'Mike your building is on fire,'" said Mike Rudzinski, owner of the hardware store.

Police say Mostoller reportedly told authorities "a guy came at me with a wrench, and I killed him."

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signs bill on student overdose notification guidelines

ARLINGTON, Va. (WJLA) — Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed a bill Friday that requires the Virginia Board of Education to establish guidelines around school overdose notifications to parents. The original bill included language that would have required schools to notify parents within 24 hours of student overdoses and that’s what Youngkin and all 40 state senators wanted. However, Democrats in the House of Delegates took the 24-hour notice requirement out of the bill.

3 men charged with selling appliances stolen from new homes in their own showrooms

TAMPA, Fla. (TND) — Authorities say they stopped part of a theft ring that involved selling brand new appliances stolen from new construction homes in Florida. Those homes were in five counties, and three men were arrested — accused of buying the appliances and reselling them in two makeshift showrooms: a house and a storage facility, in and around Tampa. Detectives said one of the suspects had even been “publishing the stolen appliances for sale online.
