This season, the Nittany Lions will play host to the Iowa Hawkeyes for the "Whiteout" game, which will kick off at 8 p.m. on Sept. 23rd. The Whiteout game will be televised on CBS. Rare great white shark sighting off Alabama coast caught on camera

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — A rare great white shark sighting about 30 miles off the Alabama coast was caught on camera. Researchers at the University of South Alabama (USA) captured video of a juvenile female great white shark hanging out south of the Sand Island lighthouse. According to a news release from USA, this is the first known sighting in that area recorded by scientists, and this juvenile shark has never been recorded before.

Rifle-wielding man fatally shot by officer

DOVER, Pa. (AP) -- Police say a 21-year-old man was shot and killed inside his Pennsylvania home by an officer who saw him approaching with an AR-15 rifle. Northern York County Regional Police responded to the Dover Township home early Thursday after a woman called 911 requesting police assistance for an unspecified problem. Police say an officer encountered Isaiah Green holding the rifle in the garage. They say Green was shot after approaching the officer and refusing to the drop the gun.

Two people dead after Easter weekend house fire in Elk County

Two people have been confirmed dead following a house fire in St. Mary's, Elk County, Saturday morning, officials said. Emergency officials said the call came in around 8:15 a.m. for a house fire with a possible entrapment on Jackson Road. Officials with the Crystal Fire Department said the house was fully involved by the time crews arrived on scene and that, not long after, the roof began to collapse. Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio confirmed in a press release that there were two fatalities.

UPJ's Sports Center getting wooden floor

JOHNSTOWN -- The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's Sports Center is getting a new home court. Blair County District Attorney announces intent to remain in office

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Blair County District Attorney Pete Weeks announced his intent to officially run for District Attorney Tuesday. Retired longtime Blair County District Attorney, Rich Consiglio, formally endorsed Weeks, who had been acting as the DA since Consiglio’s retirement last year. He was officially sworn in last April to fulfill the remainder of Consiglio’s term. Weeks' office is working on community outreach within area schools. Once things get back to normal, he wants specialized prosecutors and “front line law enforcement” to go into area schools and speak to students about drug abuse, human trafficking, social media pitfalls and other emerging dangers that target children.

California couple searches for beloved horse sold in Missouri auction

Jefferson City — A Victorville, California couple is searching for their retired carriage horse, sold at an auction in mid-Missouri in March of 2024 without their permission. The couple spent months trying to find the perfect home for their 6-foot-4, 2,200-pound Percheron after they hit hard times after COVID-19. "I turned down 30 to 40 people who tried to buy him. Several people wanted him to be a carriage horse, and we did not want that for him.

Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department to unveil new home

BROCKPORT - The Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department will unveil its new home Aug. 13. Fire Captain PJ Piccirillo said the company will have an open house and ribbon cutting of the new fire station at 2 p.m. at 6921 Route 219. The public is invited to attend. The new 3,800-square-foot station houses the department's fire engine, rescue/pumper, tanker and utility brush truck. Piccirillo said the new location will help improve response times by more than 10 minutes per call to better serve the 1,400 residents in the 57-square-mile area.

Poppy Wall of Honor returns; USAA reminds Americans about true meaning of Memorial Day

(TND) — USAA has brought its Poppy Wall of Honor back to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as a way to honor our fallen service members and educate the public on the true meaning of Memorial Day. The 133-foot-long display can be seen through Sunday at the base of the Lincoln Memorial between the Reflecting Pool and Korean War Memorial. USAA said the wall honors the more than 600,000 Americans who gave their lives in service to our country since World War I.
