Nursing and Personal care homes reach "critical" point amid more closures
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Finding personal care for a loved one can be hard enough. That process became increasingly more difficult following the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Pennsylvania Assisted Living Association says more than 230 personal care homes have closed across the state since the pandemic began.
M. Veil Griffith, an administrator with the Cambria County Area Agency on Aging says, "It boils down to a financial problem."
The Atrium, a personal care home in Johnstown, is one of the most recent facilities to announce it's closing its doors.

Kennywood's Steel Curtain roller coaster to remain closed
WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania amusement park says its newest and biggest attraction will remain closed with no timetable for opening.
Kennywood Park near Pittsburgh says crews "are continuing work on some adjustments" to the Steel Curtain, which has been closed since Saturday.
The 4,000-foot-long coaster contains nine inversions, which park officials say is the most in North America, and the world's tallest inversion at 197 feet.
Nissan to fix suspensions on about 200K Altima midsize cars
DETROIT (AP) — Nissan will do a "service campaign" to fix nearly 200,000 Altima midsize cars because a suspension part can come loose from the frame due to corrosion.
The campaign falls short of a recall, but the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is continuing an investigation into the problem that covers more than 2 million cars.
The campaign includes 2013 Altimas in 22 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., that use salt to clear roads in the winter.
Pennsylvania liquor stores open for King Day, other holidays
HARRISBURG -- Hundreds of Pennsylvania's state-owned liquor stores will be open for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as well as on other holidays for the first time in the coming year.
A state law enacted last year allows the Liquor Control Board to operate on the holiday being celebrated Monday, as well as for Presidents Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day.
Stores that are normally scheduled to be open on Mondays will be open on the holidays, but not the stores that are normally closed on Mondays.

But those meals can stop during the summer when school is not in session, often for up to 90 days, leaving kids across the U.S. at risk of hunger. Altoona prepares for return of African-American Heritage Festival
Altoona, PA (WJAC) — Altoona will once again be hosting the African American Heritage Festival, in downtown Altoona.
The event will take place on July 29th and 30th, at Heritage Plaza on 11th Avenue.
Attendees will have the opportunity to experience African music and dance, food, educational presentations, arts, and children’s activities.

Blood linked by DNA to Aniah Blanchard found in her vehicle
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — Blood linked by DNA to Aniah Blanchard was found in the missing teenager's vehicle.
A warrant affidavit for kidnapping suspect Ibraheem Yazeed said blood "indicative of someone suffering a life-threatening injury" was found by investigators on the passenger side of Blanchard's Honda CRV.
The warrant, filed Wednesday in Alabama, charged Yazeed with first-degree kidnapping.
The blood samples were analyzed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and positively matched them to Aniah Blanchard, according to the affidavit.
Goodwill opens online designer fashion store that gives back
FALLS CREEK - Goodwill Industries of North Central Pennsylvania in Jefferson County launched an online women's thrift store that gives back to the community.
reStitch is located inside the Goodwill facility on Preston Way in Falls Creek.
Ecommerce manager Krisha Oates said reStitch is a one-of-a-kind, online, thrifting experience that features high-end women's fashion.
Oates said Goodwill gets the clothing from Macy's and other retailers, most new with tags.
