Man arrested for string of car break-ins throughout Altoona, police say
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Altoona police say they’ve arrested the man responsible for a string of car break-ins throughout the city.
According to the Altoona Police Department, 34-year-old Anthony Gottlieb is facing charges including theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, prohibited offensive weapons and other related charges.
Police said they had surveillance video of thefts from vehicles and they were able to identify him after he stole some security cameras from an elevator at Ida Towers on 12th Street.
Patient data breach at HCA Healthcare potentially threatens 11 million patients
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — HCA Healthcare confirmed a trove of their patient information has been stolen and an estimated 11 million patients may have been affected by the hack.
The WPEC I-Team reported the hacker is threatening to sell the Protected Health Information (PHI) on the dark web unless the company pays a ransom. According to a company statement, hospital operations aren't affected by the hack, but the personal details of an unspecified number of patients have been taken, including dates of birth, email addresses, phone numbers, gender and appointment dates.
PennDOT lifts speed restrictions on area roadways
UPDATE |PennDOT has lifted the temporary speed restrictions that it had issued earlier Tuesday for several area highways.
ORIGINAL | As more winter weather moves through the region Tuesday, PennDOT has issued several speed reductions for multiple area roadways.
PennDOT is also advising motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.
Officials say speeds have been reduced to 45 mph on the following roadways:
The entirety of Interstate 99Route 22/322 between I-99 and Route 17 -- MillerstownPennDOT has also reduced the speed limit to 45 mph on Interstate 80 in Jefferson and Clarion counties.
'Call the cops or have sex with me:' Suspect in Richland Twp. standoff tried to rape woman
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County are providing new details on Thursday's standoff situation in Richland Township.
According to the affidavit, police have identified the suspect as 41-year-old Jordan Confer.
Richland Township police say officers were dispatched just before 6 a.m., to a residence along Dowling Road, for reports of a suicidal male with gun.
Authorities say Confer was identified as the suicidal male and witnesses say he reportedly fled the scene to a residence along Banyan Drive, prior to police arriving.
5th suspect arrested in 2022 ambush shooting outside Philly high school after football scrimmage
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Federal authorities have announced the arrest of the fifth and final suspect wanted in an ambush shooting that killed a 14-year-old and wounded several other teenagers outside a Philadelphia high school after a football scrimmage last year.
U.S. marshals in Philadelphia said 17-year-old Dayron Burney-Thorn was taken into custody Monday in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood after more than a year on the run. Authorities said he jumped from a fourth-story window in an unsuccessful effort to elude capture and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
All-time NFL great running back, social activist Jim Brown dead at 87
Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown, the unstoppable running back who retired at the peak of his brilliant career to become an actor as well as a prominent civil rights advocate during the 1960s, has died. He was 87.
A spokeswoman for Brown’s family said he passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home on Thursday night with his wife, Monique, by his side.
One of the greatest players in football history and one of the game’s first superstars, Brown was chosen the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1965 and shattered the league’s record books in a short career spanning 1957-65.
Bedford County woman sentenced to life in prison for murdering husband
Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — Authorities say a Bedford County woman will spend the rest of her life behind bars after being convicted of fatally shooting her husband in 2018.
In September, 76-year-old Nancy Focht was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 74-year-old David Focht Sr.
"The defendant murdered her husband then tried to lie her way out of being caught,” Attorney General Michelle Henry said. “Although nothing can bring back David Focht Sr.
Clowns compete for chuckles and trophies at 1977 Clown-O-Rama in Altoona
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — This week’s look back into our archives takes us to a "circus-like event" full of clowning around.
It’s February 1977 and our news crew is at the Jaffa Mosque in Altoona where clowns are performing for judges.
We got help from the current Jaffa Calliope Clowns to explain.
They tell us it’s called the Clown-O-Rama.
It’s an annual competition among Shriner clowns in the mid-Atlantic states.
Officials ID victim of Somerset Township crash
UPDATE |Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Somerset County officials have identified the victim of Wednesday night's crash in Somerset Township.
Deputy coroner Alexis Lichty says 58-year-old Christopher Revello, of Somerset Township, was pronounced dead around 8:45 p.m.
Officials say his cause of death has been determined to be blunt force trauma.
Investigators say authorities were dispatched to Water Level Road, around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
A nod to 'backbone' of America
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Sheetz officials say they’re celebrating Truck Driver Appreciation Week by cutting diesel fuel prices.
They announced Thursday they’re reducing diesel prices by 35 cents per gallon at all their locations.
It’s the 35th year for Truck Driver Appreciation year.
Sheetz says they’re also decreasing their diesel exhaust fluid prices to 99 cents per gallon at the pump.
“Truck drivers positively impact the fabric of everyday American life,” said Travis Sheetz, President & CEO of Sheetz.
