'Move forward:' inmates at Bedford County Correctional Facility imagine better future
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Thursday morning, Anthony Makarikas came to the Bedford County Correctional Facility as a visitor after he was an inmate there for three years.
"Today, for me, it's a part of growth. Coming here is part of growth for me," Makarikas told 6 News.
Anthony is now married, bought a house, and works as a cook at a restaurant.
I found somebody that actually gave me a chance.
Centre County cemetery to honor fallen veterans on Memorial Day
Volunteers for the Union Cemetery in Bellefonte are preparing to honor fallen veterans this Memorial Day.
They spent part of their Thursday at the Brockerhoff House making approximately 30 wreaths that will be placed on veterans’ gravestones ahead of Memorial Day.
Those veterans died in the line of duty.
They plan on laying the wreaths this coming Tuesday morning.
Volunteers said it's very important for all of us to honor and remember those who fought for our freedom.
Pittsburgh Zoo offering free admission in honor of World Wildlife Day
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is celebrating World Wildlife Day with a special treat for its guests: free admission!
Zoo officials say all guests who visit on Tuesday will receive free admission between its regular hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A sea lion training session will also take place at the Kids Kingdom at 11:30 a.m., weather permitting, according to the zoo's website.

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — An inmate at SCI Houtzdale is facing new charges after authorities say he admitted to killing his cellmate earlier this year.
On Friday, police charged 34-year-old Derek Bullard with first-degree murder in the June 15th death of 79-year-old Roberto Quevada.
According to the affidavit, investigators say Bullard allegedly admitted to strangling Quevada and then wrapping his body up in a blanket and leaving him in his bunk.

Ford recalls Fusion, Lincoln MKZ for seatbelt, seat back problems
Ford has issued two recalls affecting nearly 681,000 late-model Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans. The majority of those vehicles may have problems that affect their seatbelts, while a small number could have issues with their seat backs. Both problems increase the risk of injury to occupants during collisions.

More charges filed against PSU professor accused of lewd acts at public park
HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Huntingdon County say more charges have been filed against a Penn State professor who is accused of engaging in various sexual acts at a public park.
In June, police charged Themis Matsoukas after they say he was caught on camera at Rothrock State Forest engaging in sexual acts with his dog.
Authorities say following the initial investigation, police obtained search warrants for Matsoukas' electronic devices, where troopers reportedly discovered over 50 videos of Matsoukas engaged in various lewd acts at Alan Seeger State Park.
